Pink vs Blue, another perspective – Gareth’s story

My wife and I got married in August 2015 and moved in together in a new home we had been renovating for 6 months for the first time the day after the wedding. Having neither livid with anyone other than family before it was always going to be interesting and different, no parents or siblings to help with the housework and chores, we were, for the first time, on our own!

We swiftly divided things into pink, blue and shared jobs. Pink: (anything light and non mucky) Blue: (anything heavy and mucky) Shared: (anything we could both easily share) Pink: collating washing and putting machine on, putting washing on radiators (mainly in winter), doing food shop and putting food away, changing bedsheets, washing dishes/sorting dishwasher Blue: cleaning bathrooms, sinks, handling bins/rubbish, washing cars and windows, washing on line (in summer), hoovering, emptying the hoover. Shared: cooking (again divided into mucky (e.g. handling meat, cracking eggs and non mucky placing something from a packet into the oven.) No children, and we’re perfectly fine with how things are currently arranged – however my wife wouldn’t mind a professional cleaner!
